O Risen Christ, who makes intercession for us and in us, and who is the giver of life and health and healing: fill us with Your life-giving love and power, that we may worthily intercede for others. May the Holy Spirit make us one with those for whom we pray, and deepen our understanding of Your great love for them and for us; and grant that we, giving ourselves to Your good purposes, may be delivered from self-concern and made fit to be channels of Your grace. To You be all honour and glory and thanksgiving now and for ever.

Our Lives

Let us pray for God’s precious gift of life that has been threatened under the current pandemic, remembering those who suffer viral infection, those whose treatments for other ailments have been affected, and not neglecting to give thanks that many have recovered, and that the fearful affects of the virus are waning.

O God our Father, who is the source of all life and health, all strength and peace: Teach us to know You truly; take from us all that hinders the work of Your healing power, all our sins, all our anxieties and fears, all resentment and hardness of heart; and help us to learn to enter into stillness and peace with You, and to know that You are our healer and redeemer; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Health Care Providers

Let us pray for those who tend the sick, the elderly, and all who have been most vulnerable to infection, that their sacrificial service might receive due reward and all may be inspired further to compassionate care for all those who are easily cast off in society.

O Heavenly Father, who by Your Son Jesus Christ has taught us the glory of self-sacrifice and service: Bless all those who are called to care for the sick in mind and body; may they always remember that they are fellow-workers with You; and give them such patience, skill, and love that they may bring healing and comfort to those whom they serve; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Our Souls

Let us pray for our eternal salvation, that we may be forgiven for all of our sins that have contributed to God’s judgment on this fallen creation, and that have increased the suffering and distress of those around us.

We confess to You, O heavenly Father, as Your children, our hardness, indifference, and impenitence; our grievous failures in pure and holy living; our trust in self, and misuse of Your gifts; our fear and reluctance as Your witnesses before the world; and the sin and bitterness toward our fellow man. Give us, O Father, contrition and meekness of soul; grace to amend our sinful life; and the holy comfort of Your Spirit to overcome and heal all our evils; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Despondent

Let us pray for those who are despondent in spirit, and who are in desperate need of the hope that comes only from our Saviour.

Comfort, we beseech You, most gracious God, all who are cast down and faint of heart amid the sorrows and difficulties of the world: and grant that by the quickening power of Your Holy Spirit they may be lifted up to You with hope and courage, and be enabled to go upon their way rejoicing in Your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Unity of the Church

Let us pray for the whole Christian Church, that our Lord God would heal the strife and division among its members and unite us all to point the world to the way of salvation.

O God, the physician of men and of nations, the restorer of years that have been destroyed: Look upon the distractions of the world and the divisions of Your Church, and be pleased to stretch forth Your healing hand. Draw all people to You and one to another by the bands of Your love; make Your Church one, and fill it with Your Holy Spirit, that by Your power it may unite the world in a sacred brotherhood of nations, wherein justice and mercy, truth and freedom, may flourish and You may be for ever glorified; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Nation

Let us pray for our nation, that we might treasure the blessings that we have received in this land and be gratefully disposed to engender peace and equity for all its citizens.

Almighty and everlasting God, we praise You for all that You have done for us as a nation. Deepen the root of our national life in Your everlasting righteousness, lest Your blessing be withdrawn. Make us equal to our high trusts, reverent in the use of freedom, just in the exercise of power, and generous in the protection of weakness. Inspire those who direct the State, that they may guide it wisely and well; give insight and faithfulness to our legislators and judges; and may our deepest trust ever be in You, the Lord of nations and the King of kings; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our World

Let us pray our Lord God Almighty that throughout the world He would deliver all from error, take away disease, ward off famine, set free those in bondage, and grant safety to all:

Almighty and merciful God, without whom all things hasten to destruction and fall into nothingness: Look, we beseech You, upon Your family of nations oand men, to which You have committed power in trust for their mutual health and comfort. Save us and help us, O Lord, lest we abuse Your gift and make it our misery and ruin; draw all men unto You in Your kingdom of righteousness and truth; and renew our faith in your unchanging purpose of goodwill and peace on earth; for the love of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Peace

Finally, let us pray for peace, in places where war has recently broken out and where long-standing conflicts have caused untold suffering, that we may live out our days in security and have hope for the generations yet to come:

O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works, give to us, Your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey Your commandments and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
